Gourmet Safari : Gastronomical Experience At Changkat Bukit Bintang

It was a gastronomical experience at it’s best!

Few weeks ago, I ventured on a safari – not the one in Africa though – but just as adventurous. I didn’t need a passport to get on this safari. It was just in Kuala Lumpur. Changkat, Bukit Bintang, to be exact.

That night, Gourmet Safari brought me to four stages of ecstasy. I was first teased by the Emperor’s Fore Play before I was tormented with Four Sensual Pleasures in a place you would least expect me to find fulfillment. Immediately after that I had the most Delightful Pairing before I ended the night with A Happy Ending – it was so good that it rhymed.

Would you like to know what Gourmet Safari has to offer?

Gourmet Safari at Changkat, Bukit Bintang

Organised by Werner’s Group, Gourmet Safari is true pleasure to the epicurean senses. There are two types of Gourmet Safari that evening; Pork-free (4 restaurants) and Non-Halal (6 restaurants).

I hopped on the “Pork-free” bandwagon, hoping to end the evening with a satisfaction that would leave me quivering with delight. If you think you can keep up, I am sure you will find your climax too, amongst the many textured, flavoured and lip-smacking deliciousness.

Emperor’s Fore Play at Opium KL

A “foreplay” indeed.

I had the Cajun Prawn With Mango Salsa and Sauteed Black Pepper Dumpling with Mango Asam Boi drink.

The Cajun Prawn with Mango Salsa were juicy and with just the right balance of mango salsa, I wished I had more than just two prawns! But I know the night is young and there are more to come to fill my tummy. The Sauteed Black Pepper Dumpling has the right touch of spiciness that makes you want to wash it all down with a few sips of the cool Mango Asam Boi.

I am not a huge fan of mangoes, mind you, but the balance of mango in my starter meal just made my stomach yearn for more.

Opium KL’s catchphrase is “Eat. Drink. Man. Woman.” I’m not sure which one goes with whom but with a starter like that – eating and drinking a man or woman is foreplay at it’s best. Oh wait, maybe I got that the other way around? *fingers on chin in thinking position*

Four Sensual Pleasures at Dining In The Dark

Now, what fun can you get in total darkness, you wonder? Candle-lights might bring the ‘romantic’ in you but pitch black? To some, it brought out their very ‘naughty’ side but to an angel like myself, it just made me enjoy my meal more with every bite, every dip, every lick of the lips, every stroke and every swallow.

I was given four different cuisines and had no idea what they were. I had to guess what they were as I chow down on each of them – don’t worry, you won’t be served exotic food – that type of ‘adventure’ should be reserved for you at your own home.

In order to begin, I have to feel my way on the table. I do not recommend shooting out your hand in front of you or you might risk tipping over your wine glass or juice. Feel your way slowly, but keep it PG13 and ON TOP of the table only, please.

My meal consists of:

  • Deep Fried Chicken and Shrimp Parcel on Cucumber Chutnet
  • Roasted Eggplant, Red Pepper and Onions with Thyme Smoked Lamb
  • Orange, Pomegranate and Lettuce Salad with Vinaigrette
  • Smoked Mackerel on a Leek and Mushroom Stew
  • Juice Sensation

The food are placed in small bowls and by the end of the fourth bowl, you can feel your senses are at it’s peak. My favourite would probably be the second and third but, that’s just me.

Do you know? The waiters and waitresses at Dining In The Dark are all visually impaired. But truth be told, they see better than you in here.

Delightful Pairing at The Steakhouse

Gourmet Safari The Steakhouse

I must say, this is probably the climax of my experience. I LOVE meat and sinking my teeth into something so soft and tender with just the right thickness of black pepper sauce is just an “ooh la la” moment.

Gourmet Safari The Steakhouse

The Beef Medallion on Garlic Mashed and Black Pepper Sauce cooked medium-well would make you cry out with pleasure (if you haven’t already). Pair that with Virgin Mojito and you will be left completely sated and satisfied once you’re done licking your plate clean (or imagine licking it).

A completely delightful pairing, I just have no other way to describe it. You have GOT to try it for yourself to understand what I mean.

A Happy Ending at The Whisky Bar

I ended the pleasurable ride that night by stuffing my face with some Magic Liquid. And to wash it all down, you have a choice of Coffee, Tea or — Me? (Okay, not me. I am not part of the menu).

Magic Liquid are bonbons of Bananas (banana yummeh), Strawberry, Marshmallow, Camembert Cheese and the liquid that does MAGIC (in the human world, it is called liquid nitrogen).

It would be a lot of fun to share A Happy Ending with friends as you guys poke, dip and chew those bonbons in unison. And with some cool nitrogen “smogging” your plate, you guys can even start the party early!

Werner’s Group Gourmet Safari

Gourmet Safari Kuala Lumpur would bring you to 6 of Werner’s Group KL’s restaurants:
