8 Places You Can Go To If You Find Yourself Hungry In Putrajaya

Putrajaya Prime Minister's Office

With a population of about 70,000 people in Putrajaya, a definite must-have in Putrajaya are the food outlets. Knowing Malaysians and the Malaysian appetites, there must also be many choices and types of food available for the people of Putrajaya. Below, I include only a handful of food outlets in Putrajaya, located at different precints. Although the food may vary slightly, they are mostly of Asian origin.

For foreign visitors to Putrajaya, here are some of the local cuisines that you can find and experience in Putrajaya.

Penanggah, Taman Warisan at Precint 16

Located at Taman Warisan Putrajaya, Penanggah is a food court selling many types of Malaysian or Indonesian food from rice, noodles, bread and topped with a variety of cooked fish, meat, eggs, chicken, salad and many more.

Penanggah is operational from 9am to 9pm and is opened to the public. It is free to come here, and although it is located slightly far from the offices precint, the Penanggah is very busy at lunch time and quite full during tea time as well.

The price here is highly affordable. My bowl of Beef & Stomach Noodle above is only RM5.50. Drinks vary according to type.

Location: Taman Warisan Pertanian, Precinct 16, Putrajaya.

Food Court at Precint 9

Foodcourt Precint 9 Putrajaya

Did you know that in every housing precint in Putrajaya, there is a food court built specifically for that precint?

However, the special part about the food court at Precint 9 is that, this is the first and the largest food court in Putrajaya’s housing settlement. Because of this, there are more choices of food to try from as well.

I personally love the Mi Rebus Johor. The gravy is thick, the noodle is a lot and when eaten hot, it is superb. Tastes authentic, as if brought right from Johor. And, one plate of Mi Rebus Johor is only RM5. The other food are not bad either. The Nasi Lemak Ayam Dara is quite popular here, along with the Satay, Char Kuey Teow and many other types of food. If you’re in Putrajaya and need a delicious and affordable meal, you can drop by at Precint 9’s food court.

Location: Sri Teja Food Court, Jalan P9E, Presint 9, Putrajaya.

Putrajaya Sentral at Precint 7

Putrajaya Sentral is a KLIA ERL Transit station. It serves as a transit for those from KL Sentral or Bandar Tasik Selatan ERL Station. There is also a bus station on the lower ground floor.

For someone like me, who lives in Kajang, it is easier for me to come to Putrajaya Sentral, which is only a 15 minutes drive, if I plan to go to KLIA or KLIA2 for my flight. If I have some spare time, I wouldn’t mind having a meal here before taking my transit train to KLIA or KLIA2. Plus, the prices of food here are so much cheaper than the ones at the airport.

I had a plate of Fried Kuey Teow (yes, by now you would notice that I’m a noodle person) and Ice Lemon Tea at D’ Noodles for RM7.50 only.

Location: Lebuh Perdana Barat, Presint 7, Putrajaya.

Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) at Precint 5

Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) is well known to many Malaysians.

Mostly used for international conventions, University convocations, weddings, large meetings or high school graduations, this is a building that has seen many visitors come and go, from the range of VVIPs to regular folks like you and I.

However, do you know Cafe @ PICC offers lunch buffet at as low as RM25 per head? And you get an array of amazing food, from the Lala Goreng Berlada (Spicy Fried Mollusc) to Chicken Cooked in Soy Sauce, Butter Bread to desserts like ABC or Ice Kacang (shaved ice). With such choices of food and at an easily accessible location, this is a definite place to go to, especially for lunch with colleagues!

Did you also know that PICC has a catering service?

Location: Presint 5, Putrajaya.

Only Mee Restaurant at Precint 5

Overlooking the Marina if you seat at the verandah, Only Mee is located at Marina Putrajaya. A quiet place for lunch or dinner, Only Mee serves all sorts of noodle type food – which are my favourite! – that are made fresh every day.

What do I mean by that? The machine used to produce 5 types of noodles have been imported from Korea by Only Mee. The noodles are without preservatives, prepared by certified chefs every day for a better taste and texture to your meal.

Meals includes Curry Laksa Ipoh, Prawn Mee Penang, Assam Laksa Penang, Green Curry Mee Thai, Fish Ball Mee Klang and so many more. The Curry Laksa, Prawn Mee and Fish Ball Mee are quite popular here. I had the Fish Ball Mee and helped myself to a third helping just because it is THAT good!

Location: No 1, Marina Putrajaya, Jalan P5/5, Presint 5, Putrajaya.

Umai Cafe at Precint 2

Although this was the first time I ever heard of Umai Cafe, the cafe itself was full with guests when I was there a few weeks ago. I assumed that the food are good and all these people filling the cafe are return customers. After a taste of the food here, I think my assumption was right.

Umai Cafe is a family cafe. The owner, Mr Amir told us that Umai Cafe is a family based cafe, where most of the menus and recipes are from his mother, Datin Jamaliah. The best part about eating here is the view. I was at the upper floor of the cafe for my meal and it overlooked the beautiful Tuanku Mizan Sultan Zainal Abidin Mosque with it’s beautiful lights reflected at the Putrajaya Lake’s surface.

The view itself was breathtaking, but the meal topped off the night.

A great place to come for dinner with the family.

Location: Bangunan Monumen Alaf Baru, Precint 2, Putrajaya.

Putrajaya Open Market at Precint 2

I have not been to an open market for quite a while. The last time I came here was last Ramadhan where my friends and I bought some food for breaking fast in front of Perbadanan Putrajaya (Putrajaya Corporation) Building, which is only a minute or two walk from the open market.

The market, like all other day market sells food, drinks, toys, clothes and fresh produce. It is open from 12.30pm-10pm on Tuesdays and Fridays only. Located on the ground floor next to Tuanku Mizan Sultan Zainal Abidin Mosque, it is an easily accessible location.

Location: Mega Open Market, Precint 2, Putrajaya

Spring Garden Restaurant at Precint 1

Spring Garden Restaurant Putrajaya

The Spring Garden Restaurant Putrajaya or formerly known as Sea Food Restaurant is located at the Putrajaya Botanic Park. Because of this strategic location with trees and colorful flowers all over the park, the air is cooler and the atmosphere is more relaxing. There are many locations for photo opportunities here.

The Spring Garden Restaurant is under Tai Thong Group and as you know about Tai Thong Group, there are some of their restaurants that serves non-halal food. However, rest assure that the Spring Garden Restaurant in Putrajaya is a pork-free restaurant.

Buffet and Ala-Carte are available in this restaurant. The restaurant is open from 11.30am-10.30pm daily.

Location: Putrajaya Botanical Park, Precint 1, Putrajaya.
