Planning a trip to a different country is easy, either you’re going with a friend(s) or by yourself, you just have to plan or discuss the itinerary, get the place of stay and flight done and it’s settled. But, what if you need extra documentations?
How to Apply An Australian Visa
Step 1
Go to www.eta.immi.gov.au to apply for your visa or better known as ETA (Electronic Travel Authority). Click the “Apply for an ETA” box and a dialogue box will appear where you will also have to tick the relevant boxes.
Are you going to Australia as a tourist? Are you sure you’re from outside Australia? Make sure you tick the “agree to terms and conditions” box. Then, click Next.
Step 2
Next step is to key in your personal and passport details – hence why you need your passport with you.
Make sure the details are the same as what’s in your passport (each alphabet counts!). Then, click Next.
Step 3
Make sure all the information you’ve provided is correct and tallies with the details in your passport. You will also be required to include your email address so that you can receive a copy of the ETA details in your email. Once everything is confirmed, click Next.
Step 4
You will be brought to the payment section. Currently, the website only accepts payment through major credit cards, no debit cards or paypal accepted. Key in your credit card details and click Next. Please be patient until the request is processed. You do not want to be billed twice on your credit card do you?
Step 5
Once your payment is approved, there will be a page with your ETA reference number. The reference number will also be sent to the email address you included earlier. If you confirm that everything looks right, click Next.
Step 6
You will be brought to the last page of the ETA application. The reference number, expiry date of ETA, visa conditions, etc will be displayed here. You do not have to print anything because once everything is confirmed, the ETA is already recorded in Australian immigration database. All you have to do when you head to Australia, is bring that same passport of yours!
——
If you’re heading to Australia as a tourist or just a business visitor (example, you’re meeting a business associate/ architect/ product supplier/ etc, to discuss about your upcoming project), you only need to apply for the tourist ETA. Unless you plan to work in Australia (in a company based in Australia, etc), then you would be required to apply for a different visa – work visa (which costs more).
So make sure you know what you’re applying for to prevent any problems with the immigration upon arrival.
