The architechture and buildings that represent the colonial era makes Taiping an ideal heritage town. From it’s inception in 1990, Taiping Heritage Trail is followed up with the Taping’s 33 First in 2006. Now, the Taiping’s 33 First is included into the Taiping Heritage Trail along with 6 other locations as a part of Taiping’s tourism product. This happens all thanks to NICA and Taiping Municipal Council.

The Taiping Heritage Trail takes up about 11.5 kilometres from it’s starting point – the Taiping Zoo & Night Safari. This RM 2.5 million project involves upgrades of selected buildings, placements of road names, information signboards including QR Codes (for smartphone users), road lamps, road marks, interlocking paver, special hoarding board, plaques and bus stops at 8 different locations – Taiping Zoo, FMS Station, Clock Tower, Pasar Besar, Taiping Train Station, Galeria Pertama, Dataran Warisan and Perak Muzium.

NICA and JICA took the opportunity to introduce their latest collaboration which is the EV Bus or Electric Bus. The EV Bus that will be officially introduced next year is still on it’s trial session this year.

Mr. Kojiro Matsumoto, the Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) informed that, “With the success of Taiping Heritage Trail, JICA will take into consideration the feedback of users (tourists and locals alike) on the EV Bus. Maybe there can be further collaboration between JICA and NICA in the future.” Although the fee for following the Taiping Heritage Trail on board the EV Bus is yet to be determined, we are informed that the fee will be made affordable to everyone.

EV Bus is an electric powered bus. The battery, super charged within 1 hour’s time will last for 25-30 kilometres. It can fit up to 20-25 passengers at one time. The bus is akin to a mini bus which can fit in narrow roads as well.
