Have you tried trishaw rides before? I did once when I was a young girl and thought it would be a great experience to ride on one again now that I’m older. The opportunity came to me when my friends and I went on a roadtrip to Malacca recently. Trishaw ride is one of the many attractions in Malacca town. Apart from doing the regular Malacca Heritage Walk, you can also see Malacca whilst someone cycles you from one heritage place to another, with a little trivia on the sites from the cyclist.
Best part about the trishaws in Malacca is that they are heavily decorated with colourful lights, faux flowers and music. According to our cyclist, trishaws in Malacca are available from 7am – 2am every day. You can find cyclers as young as 16 years old and as old as 60 years old, some of which have cycled for more than 20 years.
So, what did we do on our ride?
How to get a good Trishaw ride deal
You can find trishaws almost everywhere in Malacca town but we took our ride opposite of the Dataran Pahlawan Mall.
We wanted to go to Jonker Street and decided to ride a trishaw instead of walking. There are many packages offered by the trishaw cyclist. All you need to do is plan your route. If you are pressed for time, make sure you take into consideration that these cyclists need to paddle slightly uphill on certain routes and all is done manually.
Here are the prices offered for some packages :
- RM 25 for four (4) site views – almost 20 minutes ride
- RM 35 for six (6) site views – almost 40 minutes ride
- RM 50 for a one hour ride
We took the RM25 package. Package is for per trishaw. Price is the same if you’re a single passenger or if you’re a duo. Maximum passenger is two adults per trishaw or three children per trishaw.
I enjoyed the night ride because of the cooler temperature and the many colourful lights on the trishaws around Malacca. The only downside is that I can’t really see the attractions around so, we just end up talking and singing along to the loud music. If you would like to take photos of the historical sites however, you can take the day-time trishaw ride but just make sure you bring some water along because the weather can be quite hot and humid in the day.
