Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16
When I think of Macao, I always think of City of Dreams even though I’ve never been there before. The casinos, the lights and entertainment, the luxury brands and “luxurious” people that stayed in Asia’s “mini” Las Vegas are pretty much what I imagine when I think of Macao.
I know that sounds incredibly superficial especially since there’s more to Macao than just the City of Dreams. As a matter of fact, there are more interesting places that can be frequented by tourists, more sights and sounds to appreciate, even a special kind of scenery that you couldn’t find elsewhere.
Until I arrived at Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16.
Location & Architecture
Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 or “Ponte 16” for short, is located on the mainland, not on the island. It is smack in the heart of the city, only walking distance from many of Macao’s historical buildings and heritage trails.
As I stood in front of the enormous 5-star luxury hotel, I was curious of the equally enormous ball-like structure hanging in front of the hotel’s casino entrance next to the hotel’s entrance. I figured it might light up at night, maybe.
The hotel’s façade itself is a mixture of modern architecture and European-Portugese design infused with a little bit of Chinese elements. When I stepped into the lobby however, the atmosphere is clean, welcoming, well-lit and very spacious. I loved all the large features in the lobby – large tables, large flowers and vases, large chandeliers, large lounge chairs and many more.
Rooms & Amenities
Oh, I loved the room so much, I wished I could stay there longer than 3 nights!
I loved the soft sheets on the bed and the two types of pillows : hard and soft. I loved both types of pillows. I know I sound like I have very limited vocabulary but the moment I stepped into the room and see my name of the TV with a welcoming message on it, I fell in love.
One of the things I love is that the toiletries are L’Occitane products. Yippeee!! I smelt super good for the next 3 nights, LOL!
I stayed in the Luxury Room overlooking the Pearl River delta for three nights. The Pearl River delta was a sight early in the morning and at night, it looked absolutely gorgeous too.
The Luxury Room is priced at around RM500+ per night on non-peak season. Price may differ on peak season. There are many amenities included in the room including:

Other rooms available are the Superior Room with city views, Superior Room Club with Hermès bath amenities, Luxury Room Club with awesome Bose sound system, Junior Suite with the most relaxing spa bath pillow, Prestige Suite with its artistic French touches and Mansion with its unique themes and extremely spacious rooms for entertaining your guests.
Other Hotel Facilities
One of my favourite things at Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 (apart from it’s bed) would be the 18th floor and it’s breathless view.
A very spacious open space, the 18th floor is the best point to get a 360° view of Macao. In fact, I think it is probably one of the best points in the whole of Macao. It could get very windy at night up here, but if you’re a fan of watching colorful lights from a distance (like me!), then being up here should definitely be in your to-do list.
I dined at the Le Chinois Cantonese Restaurant with friends one night and we were delighted to know that one of the chefs was a Malaysian, an Ipoh native that has lived in New Zealand for the past 10 years.
I absolutely adore the Szechuan cuisine that he prepared for us all. The food was fantastic and delicious starting from the appetizer up until dessert. One this subject, my friends and I would 100% attest to. It was chopstick licking good!
Of course the hotel has other dining outlets but sadly I couldn’t vouch for the rest since I didn’t dine in any of the other restaurants. The setting however are according to the restaurant’s theme.
Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 also has a very large swimming pool; spa to unwind in and fitness rooms for those who loves to keep fit; ballroom for weddings, meeting rooms and boardrooms; and many other facilities.
Another attractive part about the hotel is that there is a pick-up point (bus) in front of Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16’s casino that can either drop you directly at the City of Dreams or to the jetty so that you can take the ferry to Hong Kong.
Services by Staffs
Although I didn’t talk to any of the staffs directly except the reception for check-in and check-out, most of the time that I did pass by hotel staffs, they would always smile and give a slight bow to me.
I appreciate the friendly ambience projected by the staffs which is one of the most important aspects to me wherever I stayed at during my travels. This happens to be one of the strong reasons why I would return to Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 one day in the future.
