Star Hotel, Semarang – Sweet Welcoming
End of November last year, I followed a media fam trip to Indonesia and our first stop was Semarang, Central Java. That first night, we checked-in to Star Hotel, Semarang. It had been a tiring and long day because soon after arriving in Central Java, we immediately went to visit our first attractions – Sam Poo Kong and Lawang Sewu.
The best part after arriving at Star Hotel, Semarang was the sweet welcome we received by Star Hotel’s staffs. It made all the fatigue fade away. Not to mention the cold Tamarind welcoming drink and cool face towel too.
Star Hotel, Semarang
Location & Architecture
Located in the heart of Semarang, Central Java, Star Hotel is at a strategic location. With the Java Mall right next door, it is only a walking distance for guests of Star Hotel to make any last minute purchases, if required. However, be rest assured that Star Hotel has pretty much all that you need.
Star Hotel is a Four star Hotel. Boasting as the highest building in Central Java, being 97 metres above sea level. It is no wonder why Star Hotel is popular amongst tourists in Semarang. The interior and settings are modern, which fits well with the taste of locals and foreign tourists.
Rooms & Amenities
Star Hotel offers 60 Superior Rooms, 185 Deluxe Rooms and 8 Suites (5 Junior Suite Queen, 2 Junior Suite King, 1 Suite). Below are the room rates. However, room rates may change during peak season.
- Superior Room, 20.6sqm – Rp. 450.000++ a night
- Deluxe Room, 20.6 sqm – Rp. 630.000++ a night
- Junior Suite Queen, 41.2 sqm – Rp. 1.700.000++ a night
- Junior Suite King, 44 sqm – Rp. 2.000.000++ a night
- Suite, 65 sqm – Rp. 3.000.000++ a night
I stayed in the Superior Room in a queen-sized bed. Since I got the room all to myself, it is just perfect – and I can roll around on the bed whichever end I liked. My view was the Java Mall, quite a busy street until closing hours. I love that my room has the hair dryer – it being essential for a hijab wearer, especially after showers in the morning.
Other amenities in my room includes; safety deposit box, coffee/tea maker, minibar, work desk, wake up call, IDD telephone service and free wi-fi.
Other Hotel Facilities
If you ask Star Hotel’s guests, what are their favourite hotel facilities, it would probably be their Sky Swimming Pool and Sky Pool Bar. Both of these are located on the 30th Floor, the highest floor of the hotel, overlooking probably half of Semarang (okay, maybe I’m exaggerating a little!).
When night comes and the pool bar’s lights are turned on, it sure looked like a good place to chill out with friends or have a drink. And if space on the 30th floor is limited, wooden floor boards are placed on top of part of the pool and tables are opened on it for you to have your dinner with your group. Cool right?
Other facilities are the Lies Spa (don’t ask me why it is called as such), Titan Gym, Prima Restaurant, Star Lobby Lounge, Meeting Room and an indoor Beer House.
Also, if you require transportation from the airport to the hotel, you may contact and set pick-up time with the hotel beforehand.
Services by Staffs
The thing about the room keycard is that you shouldn’t put it close to your phone because it could interrupt the reading on the lift or your room door, and I made the mistake of just that. Had to get the friendly staff at the reception fix that for me at 5 o’clock in the morning, all smiles and asking if I need assistance to the lift. Very happy to receive such service.
